Applying for ALTCS in Prescott

Before applying for ALTCS in Prescott, Arizona, there are a few things that you should consider. ALTCS (Arizona Long Term Care System) is Arizona’s Medicaid program and provides supplemental income to those who are need of long term care. Primarily serving either elderly or disabled individuals, the ALTCS program is designed to make the costs of long term care more affordable for those who do not have the financial means to pay for them.

ALTCS requires two components for applicants. The first is a financial qualification, which determines whether or not a person is below the countable resource threshold to qualify for ALTCS. For a single individual, the threshold is less than $2,000 in cash savings, including IRA and other retirement savings and less than $2,742 in monthly income. You will be required to submit your financial information to the state during the ALTCS application period.

The second part of the application is the functional and medical assessment. The functional assessment measures the need an individual has to receive long term care. The ability of the applicant to preform essential daily tasks for personal health and welfare. These activities of daily living include being able to cook meals, bathe or shower unassisted, and transfer from a seated to a standing position unassisted. Certain medical conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, or the use of pressurized oxygen are also evaluated.

An applicant must get a combined score off 60 points or more on the ALTCS application in order to be approved. Prescott applicants can apply by phone through the local ALTCS office.
